Commissioner's Task Force

Description

Long before I got into NCIS, I had an idea for a team of Starfleet officers assigned to investigate serious crimes during the TOS-era. I shelved it for a while but thought about it when I was watching Hawaii 5-0 and decided that rather than being part of a larger department, what if the little team was set up by a Federation Commissioner in a very remote region with several new colonies, which lacked any real investigative resources, and so the new look Commissioner’s Task Force was developed a little further (I doubt I’ll ever do anything with regards to writing any stories, but the idea is there to ponder should I ever decide to give it a go).

Operating in a remote region of space, on the outermost fringe of Federation territory, the Task Force is based out of Deep Space Station G-9 and has the authority to take charge of any investigation or criminal case in the region overseen by Commissioner Enez. To ensure they can reach planets quickly, the Saladin-Class U.S.S. Mars has been designated their primary means of transport—though in emergency situations, they can request priority use of any ship under Rear Admiral Tai’s command.

First Row – The Task Force:
Team Leader – Lt. Commander Jeffery “Jeff” Logan – Human, Male, 35
A resourceful and intuitive investigator, he relies as much on his instincts as on forensics to solve cases. Before being given command of the Task Force, he was Chief Security Officer of Deep Space Station G-9.

Second-in-Command – Lieutenant T’Lana – Vulcan, Female, 34
Calm, methodical and logical, she is often the polar opposite of Logan, but just as effective an investigator. She was drafted onto the team by chance, having stopped off on G-9 awaiting transfer to a new ship.

Medical Examiner – Lt. Commander Thalvrin “Thal” ch’Rhen MD – Andorian, Chan, 39
With a sharp eye and sharper intellect, not much gets by his scrutiny, which means he’s perfect for the job. He was eager to join the team, finding his biomedical research assignment to be somewhat tedious.

Investigator – Lieutenant Leon Keats – Human, Male, 31
Personable and friendly, he has a knack for putting witnesses at ease, but is a hard interrogator as well. A close friend of Logan’s, he has to take a step back for T’Lana and enjoys testing her Vulcan resolve.

Profiler/Psychologist – Lieutenant Elizabeth Winters PhD – Human, Female, 33
Seen as clinical and aloof, she is excellent at seeing what makes people tick and how that affects their behaviour. On the station to examine crew stress reactions, she was put on the team at the last minute.

Forensic Scientist – Lieutenant Tahlayn Sanai PhD – Centaurian, Male, 34
A man of peace and serenity, even in the midst of a crisis, he can put many Vulcans to shame. When the team was assembled, his multiple doctorates and degrees made him a logical choice.

Forensics Specialist – Lieutenant JG Selene Moreau – Human, Female, 27
Bright and inquisitive, once she gets into something she likes to see it through, no matter what. Though more than capable in a lab, she’d much rather work in the field, so she is often assigned when needed.

Investigator – Ensign Benito “Ben” Cruz – Human, Male, 23
Inexperienced but hard-working and observant, he makes a point of absorbing as much information as he can. Despite being a rookie in Security, Logan saw something in him and asked for him on the task force.

Computer Specialist – Ensign Traga lorim Jor – Tellarite, Female, 23
Though a genius with computer, communication and sensor systems, she also has a defensive temper. Her skillset made her an invaluable addition to the team, especially her knack for multitasking.

Second Row – Senior Staff, U.S.S. Mars:
Commanding Officer – Commander Jose “Joe” Tyler – Human, Male, 36
The former Navigator under Christopher Pike, he learnt a great deal from the legendary Captain. Now a seasoned veteran of Starfleet, there isn’t much he hasn’t seen.

Executive/Chief Science Officer – Lt. Commander Kekathane M’Nerr – Caitian, Male, 33
New to Command and still finding his feet, he is often more interested in his sensors than the ‘monotonous paperwork’—but he wants to prove Tyler’s faith in him.

Chief Engineering Officer – Lt. Commander Stenn – Vulcan, Male, 42
From a prominent family on Vulcan, his decision to enter Starfleet elicited some surprise from his family. Cool and collected, he runs a very strict Engine Room.

Chief Security Officer – Lieutenant Noriko “No Win” Kobayashi – Human, Female, 29
Nicknamed “No Win” after the infamous training scenario at the Academy, she has an uncanny skill for getting out of dangerous situations without a scratch.

Chief Communications Officer – Lieutenant Chathajun “Ajun” th’Senas – Andorian, Thaan, 28
He could have a promising career, is he could just keep his emotions in check. His Andorian passions and temper often get him into trouble.

Chief Medical Officer – Lieutenant Minnie Tanner – Human, Female, 43
Older than most other lieutenants, rather than have a more prominent career she focused on having a family. Her nurturing, motherly manner now crosses into her work.

Chief Helm-Navigation Officer – Ensign Aia – Deltan, Female, 22
Young and eager for adventure, she is a skilled pilot and has quickly proven herself to be an excellent addition to the crew of the destroyer.

Third Row – Other Prominent Characters:
Starfleet Regional Commander – Rear Admiral Jeren Tai – Catuallan, Male, 57
Though not the best known officer in the fleet, he is solid, level-headed and dependable, just what Starfleet needs on such a remote outpost—though finds it difficult with a Federation Commissioner onboard as well.

Commanding Officer, Deep Space Station G-9 – Captain Delnar – Tiburonian, Female, 48
Whilst Admiral Tai sees to the fleet, Delnar oversees the running of the station. Hardworking and contentious she likes to run a smooth station and dislikes when things interrupt her schedule.

Colonial Administrator – Lt. Commander Ebele Okoye – Human, Female, 39
She is the link between the colonies in the region and the station. Somewhat humourless, she doesn’t like having her time wasted, nor does she appreciated the cloak-and-dagger work of Starfleet Intelligence.

Chief Intelligence Officer – Lt. Commander Savrin Hu-Ralei – Efrosian, Male, 40
A man who has no problems keeping secrets from everyone, he knows that his knowledge is invaluable. He has a deep dislike of bureaucrats and paper-pushers.

Federation Regional Commissioner – Leyna Enez – Trill, Female, 36
Very young to be a fully-fledged Commissioner, she has suffered a lot of flak because of her age. She is wise beyond her years with exception skills as a politician and diplomat, making her ideal for her role.

Public Safety Liaison – Dmitry Orlov – Human, Male, 41
Responsible for overseeing the safety of all Federation assets in the region, he takes his duties seriously. One of Enez’s most trusted advisors he is also very defensive of her.

Trader – Rion Vetajj – Boslic, Male, 35(ish)
A scoundrel with a heart of gold, he captains a small merchant ship and owes Logan a debt that can never be fully repaid, so he keeps his eyes and ears open for pertinent information.
